oHoH is a Nepali based foundation. Since 2006 we have been involved in many different school projects. At that time we were not supported by any (I)NGO`s, so we decided to create our own foundation. In a nutshell, oHoH is trying to change the life of the underprivileged child/youngster in rural areas by providing them with a full scholarship allowing them free education, free health care (see: “Scholarship” in menu bar) while also educating local communities on subjects like clean environment, hygiene, child rights, clean water resources and physical and mental health.
We take pride in the fact that over the last 10 years we have already changed the lives of over 500 children. Some projects are or were bigger than others, but every little step is a little change in one child’s life. And ultimately that is our aim: to change a child’s life step by step… and it only takes one child to already make a difference.
In 2006 Koen (the general advisor and co-founder of this foundation) came to Nepal for the first time. He started working as a teacher in a small local school named DACS. It was love at first side. He stayed for 3 months in 2006 but when he had to leave, to go back to the Netherlands, he promised he would return as soon as possible. He came back in 2008 and this time he stayed for a total of 10 months. He had obtained some donations enabling him to help the school with school materials. He started by providing the school with a good laser printer. Some months later he invested money in a new volleyball court and a fence to stop the volleyball going over the cliff.
For the next 5 years Koen kept coming back to the DACS school. By this time he got help from two of his ‘Nepalese brothers’. Krishna and Surya also became involved in the projects Koen was organizing. At the end of 2008 oHoH became involved in the Thumki School and around February 2009 we started building a new toilet building and two classrooms. Another project we started was a sponsorship program. It started with a few children. These children received free education via this program, as well as copies, pens, a school bag, uniform, etc. All organized by Koen, Krishna and Surya. In 2011 we started to work together with two other Nepalese teachers which resulted in commissioning a private school named ‘ The Sunrise School’. We changed it in a community school named ‘New Vision Academy’. In 2016 this school merged with another community school named The Mahendra School.
By 2015 the group of sponsored children had increased considerably. At this time we already had more than 35 scholarship children while the projects became bigger and bigger. A few years earlier we would talk about projects worth a few hundred euro. From 2015 the projects became worth thousands of euros. We started to help another community school named "The Deurali School". Here we started to built a new toilet building and a new school library.
To keep our sponsors we needed a foundation. Surya worked for almost a year to complete all the paperwork. It seemed to be very difficult to start a foundation in Nepal but Surya was very persistent and after one year the “Our Home Of Hope Foundation” was born.
Krishna, Surya and Koen are now working hard on the continuity of the foundation, since the government is asking more and more of foundations to combat fraud and it is becoming increasingly difficult to keep the foundation running.
oHoH is a non-profit based NGO. The foundation is involved in creating possibilities in educational-, economical-, ecological, social-, physical- and psychological areas to overcome daily problems faced by Nepali children/youngsters. To achieve this goal we are giving financial support, support/training in the above areas, help/support local communities by providing them with materials, awareness programs and training and we provide free education to the weakest.
Due to several limitations (i.e. poverty, child labour, lack of knowledge on child rights, lack of hygiene, shortage of food and clean water, lack of conservation awareness) many children are having a difficult time in Nepal. oHoH is trying to change the lives of these underprivileged children/youngsters and their communities by:
- Providing education opportunities (with a full scholarship) to underprivileged and marginalised children/youngsters;
- Renovating or constructing new school buildings / classrooms;
- Establishing libraries and computer labs for the students powered by solar energy;
- Providing schools with laptops to teach in a practical and modern way to introduce children to the world of internet and e-learning.
Health and Sanitation:
- Providing free health care and dental care treatment for the students;
- Increasing awareness regarding health and sanitation issues to children and local communities;
- Promoting a healthier lifestyle and seeking to develop and strengthen physical, emotional, psychological and social resilience;
- Constructing toilets and providing other sanitary measures for the schools;
- Providing the community with clean drinking water.
Children and Natural Resource Management (NRM):
- Identifying important natural resources in the surroundings;
- Providing conservation and management measures of natural resources;
- Establishing home gardens and green houses in the schools for the conservation of locally important medicinal and aromatic plants;
- Identifying and implementation of sustainable and environmentally friendly green projects.

FRIENDS OF oHoH
During the past years, our foundation has become increasingly well-known. More and more people know where to find us. More and more people help the foundation either by helping and advising, or financially. It turned out to be a close-knit group with the original sponsors still present.
Without the “friends of oHoH” we would not be where we are now. Many projects would not have been possible without the help of a few “big” donors. Our thanks are therefore big. Without their financial support, our foundation might not even exist anymore.
