PICNIC - DACS SCHOOL

oHoH has been involved in Shree Durga Adarsha Community School (DACS) since 2006. It was the first school where we started teaching and donating materials. We donated items like a laser printer, footballs, volleyballs and larger items like a complete volleyball court including volleyball stands, a volleyball net and a huge bamboo fence around the playground to prevent the balls from going over the steep cliff which is right next to the playground.

During a 5 year teaching period we also participated in several extracurricular activities like Sports Day, Parents Day, school tours and picnics.

Until 2010/2011, DACS school operated its own hostel, where year 8 students had to stay the last 3-4 months of the year to prepare for the upcoming final exams. Younger students could stay there as well, if they wanted, but it was compulsory for the year 8 students. Achieving a good grade for your final exam is very important, and staying in the hostel meant time otherwise spent walking home would be used to study instead. Students would only go home on the (free) Saturdays.

Just after the final exams all hostel students would be invited for a big picnic to celebrate the end of the year. There would be music and there would be a variety of foods and soft drinks. A nice place somewhere by a river would be chosen and together with staff and students there would be a closing party.
oHoH has also participated in some of these picnics.

In 2012 DACS discontinued their hostel program due to a lack of teachers available to stay at the hostel for those 3-4 months. Students can still move to a hostel but they will have to go to a private hostel.
